2020 Jingchu Lacquer Art International Symposium & Annual Conference of Lacquer Art Inheritance and Development Alliance

On the morning of November 22, the 2020 Jingchu Lacquer Art International Symposium & Annual Conference of Lacquer Art Inheritance and Development Alliance took place at Changjiang Polytechnic of Art and Engineering.

Wang Xiaofeng, Member of the Party Leadership Group of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT); Wang Chenyang, First Class Counsel at the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage, MCT; Zhong Jianbo, Deputy Director of the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage, MCT; Yu Hong, Deputy Secretary General of the Hubei Provincial People's Government; Duan Tianling, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Hubei Province; He Guangzhong, Secretary of the CPC Jingzhou Municipal Committee; Wu Chaoan, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Jingzhou Municipal Committee; and Jiang Hong, Member of the Standing Committee and Secretary General of the CPC Jingzhou Municipal Committee attended the conference.

Wang noted that China's lacquer art with a long history is a bright pearl in fine Chinese traditional culture. Jingzhou's intangible cultural heritage, including Jingzhou Ancient City, guqin art and lacquer art, are import part of fine Chinese traditional culture and vivid carriers of enhanced cultural confidence. He hoped that the Lacquer Art Inheritance and Development Alliance would, under the guidance of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important statement on inheriting and promoting fine Chinese traditional culture, pool strength from all walks of life in the country, including lacquer art successors, expert and scholars, probe into the Chinese gene and cultural connotation of the lacquer art, promote the creative transformation and innovative development of the lacquer art, integrate lacquerware into modern life, promote contemporary value and make greater contributions to the rejuvenation of the lacquer art.

It has been three years since the founding of Jingzhou Traditional Arts and Crafts Workstation and one year since the founding of the Lacquer Art Inheritance and Development Alliance, said He. Supported by MCT and the Department of Culture and Tourism of Hubei Province, guided by experts of the Academy of Art & Design, Tsinghua University, with the engagement of lacquer masters and practitioners, Jingzhou has been committed to building a world top lacquer art teaching and training base, lacquer production and processing base, and lacquer design and R&D center, and the Lacquer Art Inheritance and Development Alliance has become an influential international lacquer culture learning and exchange platform. Now China's lacquer art is making its way into the life of ordinary people. With experts' support, Jingzhou will continue to promote the Chu-style lacquer art, and contribute its wisdom to rejuvenating the traditional art.

Following the conference, the attendees visited Former Residence of Zhang Juzheng and Jingzhou Ancient City Wall (East Gate), to experience its brilliant historical and cultural heritage.
